In 1836, a new county was formed out of the existing Rowan County, and was named Davie County in his honor. Three years later, the area nicknamed “Mocks Old Field” became the county seat of Davie and was incorporated as Mocksville. During the 1700s, Mocksville was home to pre-colonial frontiersman Daniel Boone and his parents, and his father served as a Justice of the Peace for Mocksville.
